What to do now that you have the Good News

Now that you know the good news, you can tell others! But how?

Imagine if you had the cure for cancer, yet you kept it to yourself. Would that be kind or loving? I’d think it would be rather quite selfish. Well, as wonderful as that would be to have the cure to cancer, knowing thousands if not more lives could be saved, Christians have something eternally better. We have the Gospel! The Good News that brings eternal life. Now, we wouldn’t want to keep this life saving news to ourselves, would we?

Like many areas of life, simple does not always mean easy. While it is simple to share the Gospel it isn’t always easy. In many parts of the world, sharing the Gospel can mean losing one’s life. While your situation may not be like that, it can still be intimidating because of the social effects and other possible negative ramifications in our anti-God culture. However, it is a command from Jesus, and we must obey Jesus! And we must fear God and not man! So, I hope you find encouragement and motivation in this devotional share this life-giving, life-changing news!

Biblical Examples

Let’s consider the words of Paul, written under inspiration of the Holy Spirit:

“For though I am free from all men, I have made myself a slave to all, so that I may win more.”

1 Corinthians 9:19

Paul saw sharing the Gospel as one of the most important endeavors in life. He would rather consider himself a slave to men, although he knew he was free in Christ, in order to win more people to Christ! What love! May we follow in his footsteps as well.

Let’s also consider Peter’s instructions to believers:

“Act as free men, and do not use your freedom as a covering for evil but use it as bond slaves of God. Honour all people, love the brotherhood, fear God, honour the king.”

1 Peter 2:16-17

Again, we see we are free, because of Christ, but we should use our freedom to serve God. Here Peter gives some examples of ways we can serve God: honouring people, loving our brothers, fearing God, and honouring our authorities. How can we honour people? A good way to start would be by sharing the best news the world needs. Of course, there are countless ways to honour and love people, but we must not neglect this commission given by God to make disciples of all nations!

Reflection Time:

  1. What are some ways, besides sharing the gospel that you can show love and honour to people?
  2. Are you sharing the gospel with people in your life? Why or why not?
  3. How would you feel if you died without ever hearing the Gospel? Would you have hoped someone would have shared with you? Think about the implications of this and journal your thoughts.
