What Is the Significance of the Resurrection?

What is the significance of the resurrection?
The Bible is clear. If Christ was not resurrected, then we are still in our sins (1 Corinthians 15:17). So, the resurrection is crucial to our faith. Many who oppose Christianity try to discredit it by claiming that Jesus was never raised from the dead. That He was just like every other man; a good person who inspired people and died and remains in history as a bit of a legend. But this cannot be. Paul states it clearly in I Corinthians 15:14, “And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain, and your faith is in vain.”
This is why we celebrate Easter. Not only did Jesus live a perfect life, die an unjust death, but God raised Him from the dead conquering sin and death! All so we could be united to Him again one day! If that isn’t reason to celebrate, I’m not sure what is.
Prophecies Fulfilled
In addition, this fulfilled many prophecies, proving God to be ever faithful to His Word. He is trustworthy and completely worthy of our praise!
The prophecy given immediately after the fall in Genesis (read previous devotion), was fulfilled in Christ’s perfect life, death, and resurrection! He crushed the head of the serpent and made a way for humanity to be in relationship with Him! Do you believe this?
Reflection Time:
- Read 1 Corinthians 15. Spend some time meditating on the truths there. Yes, it’s a long chapter, but full of truth and encouragement as a Christian.
- How can you, as Paul says in the final verse of 1 Corinthians 15, “be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord”? Take some time to journal your thoughts.
“For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures”
1 Corinthians 15:3-4
