2021 Challenges
It is through our physical challenges that we identify in a tangible way with the incredibly steep climb to freedom so many women and children have every day. Each challenge produces prayer and finances for over 20 projects in Africa, and awareness of the injustices taking place in the world.
Tankwa Camino Challenge
From 2-13 September we will be having the Tankwa Camino Challenge 2021! We did this challenge in 2018 and were planning to do it last year, but could only do it virtually due to COVID-19, so we are doing it again this year! Participants will trek through one of the most starkly beautiful areas of South Africa.
Details of the Challenge
The challenge to get up every morning for 10 days and take on an average of 26 km per day, is a test of any hiker’s ability and will challenge your hearts for the vulnerable and marginalized of the world.
This will be a time to encounter God in a way that is beyond explanation. The vastness of the region, though sheltered by mountain ranges, offers the most serene silence which will reverberate in your ears. It is here where the boundary between two provinces is crossed on the longest gravel road in South Africa.
The challenge begins months before the trek by being a light and voice for the injustice of modern day slavery. Prior to your arrival for the challenge, you will be asked to raise awareness and funds for Freedom Challenge projects within Africa.

Then the Tankwa Camino Challenge is for YOU!
E-mail forfreedom.afr@om.org for more details!
Participants must be in good health. Unfortunately we can only accept participants who live in South Africa, because of travel restrictions due to COVID-19.
Virtual SAHEL Challenge
This year we are focusing on prayer and injustices that happen in the Sahel region of Africa. With this as our inspiration, we are giving YOU the opportunity to virtually travel with us from Johannesburg to Eritrea through the Sahel and ending in Mauritania. This is a total of 14,500km that collectively we will walk, run, bike, or hike by the end of 2021!
Details of the Sahel Challenge 2021
This challenge is conducive for anyone anywhere! You can walk, run, bike, and/or hike. The distance you go, is also up to you! You can make whatever goal that will challenge YOU to complete by the end of the year. In joining this challenge you will learn specific ways of how to pray for injustices that are happening in the specific countries we are “going” through!
You will also set your own fundraising goal! Again, something that is a challenge, yet achievable in this pandemic. All the funds raised go towards our 20+ projects in Africa.
